A Soft Place to Land

Kimba, Kimba, Kimba!

You cannot read her blog without falling head over heels for her laid back style. I have found myself comparing our personalities……..or at least our hillbilly-decorating-bargain personalities all through out her blog. (she brought the hillbilly word into all this……..not me…….so chill)
Kimba is all about creating a Soft Place to Land for her family. Keeping harmony in her busy home. Seems like she is always thinking of some project………which of course we love. The more the better. Her ideas are simple with big bang appeal. She is so much like me and my sister…….we will find a solution to getting something we really like………but going about it a whole lot less expensive.
It’s a good thing we aren’t neighbors………..I’m pretty sure our children would never get fed and they would be playing in the freeway……..because we would be so busy spray painting or fussing with something.
Like this cute bench. It’s looking pretty cute in white………..but wait. Shazamm! Look how cute it is now! Love the yellow legs with the black and white fabric.

She likes spray paint……….she admits it. I love how she has created a space for all this spraying. Great idea. And no this chair didn’t end of red………..you’ll have to visit her blog to find out.

This beautiful iron grate was in it’s natural form……….and I have to admit when I first saw it, my brain screamed “Don’t paint it, I love it all natural like that” Then I felt at ease when she admitted to liking it too. So then I trusted her to do something fabulous and LOOK! I love it! (I think she even painted that birdie………nothing is safe in her home)

The most brilliant project that hit home for me is this. I have been looking for a platter……..a creamy color platter. One I plan to place the letter “D” in the middle. I’ve been looking for a while now and haven’t found it. Well I can breath a sigh of relief because my quest is near, I can feel it. All I have to do is paint it! Oh no she di’ent………. you gotta say that with attitude like my nephew Zach. YES SHE DID! She painted dishes………and if they’re valuable………don’t tell her. I also love her because between the two of us, I’m sure we own just about everything in the Southern Living at HOME catalog.

To continue the brilliant work, she took it one step further…….and this one I am totally going to copy. What a simple perfect idea! We’ve all seen these in our local Home Depot or Lowe’s……..and if you’re like me, you’ve stopped and wondered what you could do with those. well why not paint it (spray of course) black and glue it on a plate! Brilliant! She grabbed this idea from The Nester. I am still looking for shutters. Do you think Blogger knew what a service they were doing for hooking all of us crafty folk together somehow. We are creating beauty one home at a time! One small step for Blogger, one large step for Blog readers and writers! Can you handle another bench re-do? Of course you can……….or you wouldn’t be here. This bench looks sad…..used, abused…….in need of a day at the furniture spa. But now look at the beauty. She even added extensions. :) Love the fringe. Another reason to love her…….she loves heading out to yard sales and letting all who will listen, how much she paid! Gotta love her. She found all this below for under $30! I would have knocked her down or wrestled her for that pineapple and those book ends. And to prove she’s down to earth………..here is some container garden advice I have NEVER heard of before. What a great idea. I may actually be doing a bit of planting today, I may have to try this. This is a project I’ll have to do when my husband is at work, otherwise he’ll roll his eyes at me and think I have lost my mind. He doesn’t have a creative bone in his body. He never sees my vision……..you should have seen his face while he was hanging my outdoor curtains (canvas drop cloths) this past weekend. I’m sure once he saw the end result with all the cascading flowers, he’d have to once again admit all my ideas are wonderful.

Have fun!

Since I haven’t posted in forever, I don’t want you to miss yesterday’s post. Magpie Ethel.

Also, wanted to let you know about a licensing your artwork workshop taught by one of my past features. I know several of you are very artistic and I’m sure you’ve wondered how to license your designs. Check it out here.
