I’m pretty excited to be asked to work with Avocados From Mexico “Spring for Amazing Avocados“campaign. I mean who doesn’t love a good avocado? When I heard they would be sending me a box of avocados, and they were offering an amazing giveaway package to one of my readers…….seriously, how could I say no? I’ve made recipes in the past using avocados and was excited to get creative again……BUT, this time they wanted me to think outside the kitchen. OUT SIDE THE KITCHEN!!! WHAT? No recipe?
GAME ON! Bring it! I did what any creative blogger would do (after I panicked), I asked all my TCB facebook fans for their ideas to get my creative mojo flowing. Lots of great ideas from those gals!
I could make a beauty product with all my Avocados from Mexico for my 51 year old face, or maybe paint them up like Easter Eggs, but what I decided to try was a sugar application! I’ve always loved the sugared fruit I see around the holidays, so why not sugar up some avocados for an Easter Table Centerpiece? They’re shaped like eggs, so it would be perfect!
This was SO easy, I’m surprised I haven’t tried this before.
- Gather your supplies: Baking sheet, baking rack, avocados, sugar, basting brush, egg whites.
- In your bowl, separate the egg yolk, using just the egg white. Slightly beat.
- Placing your Avocado onto your baking rack, and gently brush a thin coat of egg whites onto the fruit
- Sprinkle your sugar on one section at a time, using a fork to push the fruit over to sprinkle the rest. You may need more than one coat of sugar.
Avocados from Mexico are Hass avocados, which I didn’t know. All I knew is, I love them and you can get them year round. I was also pleased to learn they provide nearly 20 vitamins and minerals per one ounce serving. Add the fact that they have the “good fats” we need, I’m sold! You notice I only used 3 for my centerpiece………that means I am eating the rest they sent me. I’m no dummy!

Mmm.. I love avocados and the sugared fruit application looks good on them! Who would have known? I am thinking that maybe avocados in a bowl… or taking the skins and making them into some kind of cool kid craft.
Love your sugar coated avocado idea! I would love to remove the skin…. let it dry and use it with a decoupage to apply to a paper mache dinosaur for a realistic skin effect. Wow can’t wait to try it… then I could still eat the inside my favorite part. Following the Amazing avocado pinterest board now too. Thanks for the opportunity to win!
Cool contest.
I think for a sort of mad-scientist party look I would balance an Avocado on a little pedestal and spray it with a non-toxic gold spray and call it a dinosaur egg.
Oh my…. I love avocados! I hope I am lucky…. gotta luv avocados on toast for breakfast….yum! Okay…. thinking outside of the box… I have been in love with pretty clear vases and have been changing them for all the holidays and seasons. I would fill a wide mouth vase with delicious avocados and then make a flower arrangement to poke down into the vase. Maybe make some fun colorful Mexican tissue paper flowers.
I’d love to grow an avocado tree.
I am going to make those sugared avocados this weekend! SO CUTE
I would sprout the pit and grow a tree. I think I’d have a chance of it bearing fruit where I live.

Wow, there are some good ideas! Mine is to eat it in the living room. I’m a strictly “think INside the box” kinda girl. I’d love to win this giveaway though!
I also joined the Amazing Avocado Pinterest Board.
I have been known to take the seeds and dry them and use them in center pieces. A clear glass vase, avocado seeds and some cute flowers (daisy’s personally), you have a nice center piece for your summer barbecue. My family loves to eat avocados.
I’m not sure if this is “non-kitchen” but one day, I’ve got to try making myself an avocado mask. I have hyper-sensitive skin but I think it’s supposed to be good even for that.
I was thinking I would decorate them up like Easter eggs.

So smart! The only thing I would have thought of was the beauty product – I love how you turned them into art!
I would save the seed and attempt to grow a tree!

Loved your idea. In fact i love all your ideas.
I would have probaly put in the grow your own houseplants from the avocada pit. That could be a garden idea.
I used a bird bath indoors by placing a glass top on it for arranging flowers
I would love to try crafting decorations wih avocados and honestly had never even thought about doing that with them before. I think it would be cool to try using them as easter eggs this year and being able to decorate them adding tissue paper around them. I’d prefer to find an easter avocado than an egg any easter! I love avocados!

Hmmm. I think I’d like to use them as a rolling stamp(bumpy surface) dip them in some tea dye and create a one of a kind tablecloth, napkins or both=)
