Outdoor Room – Outdoor Oasis

This month as a Lowe’s Creator Team Member, we were given a challenge to make our outdoor space “more appealing, more fun, or more memorable.”  Which was the perfect kick in the pants I needed to do my outdoor room again. Between all the rain we’ve had it was a challenge just to get it done and take photos.

Outdoor Room Ideas

I love having an outdoor space that feels private and comfortable. A place to just hang out with friends and drink lemonade……….come on over!

Outdoor Room | TodaysCreativeBlog.netWe have a daylight basement that walks out onto our yard. It’s not the prettiest patio and needed more than just placing a couple of chairs out. I created my own privacy by hanging outdoor drapes……..which are actually DROP CLOTHS found in the paint section of Lowes. Outdoor Room | TodaysCreativeBlog.netI didn’t realize they were too long until I was hanging them and we all know I don’t sew……….so I just folded them over.  Good enough for me. I can pull the drapes together, or leave them flowing in the wind for more privacy.  I used ring clips and nail heads to hang them. Can’t get any easier than that.

I picked up a couple of chairs in my favorite color. Outdoor Room | TodaysCreativeBlog.net These chairs are so inexpensive.  $18   Sure they’re plastic, but it’s a great way to add style without breaking the bank.

I used a lot of things I already had around, like the rug I bought last year at Lowe’s on clearance and a lot of decorative items to dress it up…in a shabby way.  Adding plants to any outdoor space is a definite must.  Hanging baskets, big pots and of course……….don’t forget candles or outdoor lighting.

I can’t wait to use this space! If you’re in the neighborhood and it’s not raining……….come on over!

Love it!!!! We use drop cloths for “curtains” on our patio too and we love them. We put grommets in ours and you can use shower curtain holders, metal ones, to hang them from a bar. Just becareful when it rains because they do get mold on them if they don’t dry out. My next ones I was going to buy some Scotchguard or something like that and give that a try. Now I need to get out and spruce up my outdoor space because I love yours!!!

Kris, This is my second pair…..since ours do get wet from the rainy weather we have. I just replace them every other year if they get moldy, or stained. I use the old drop clothes for projects etc… I love that they are only around $10.

Gorgeous Kim! Love the of red…I am getting ready to paint a couple chairs red for the backyard too…thanks for the preview! LOVE the curtains…it makes it an outdoor room. So pretty!

Thanks Holly, I think everyone should have red chairs. I painted the ones on my front porch, it was time consuming…….these are plastic and come in that color! Easy!

Love your makeover! The curtains add such a nice finishing touch. I did curtains on my patio, too. I found cheap curtains at IKEA. They aren’t made for the outdoors but they work for right now. Good to know that when they go bad (and living in AZ they WILL go bad) I can get drop cloth to replace. Great idea! And I love the red chairs, too. Nicely done!

Love the use of the drop cloths! I purchased indoor/outdoor curtains to add privacy to my covered back porch and I love them but I didn’t love the per panel price. I’ll be switching to drop cloths when these wear out!

Oohh I’ve been planning in my mind how I can transform my condo patio on the cheap…you’ve given me some good ideas!!! Dang the drop cloths are right up there with duct tape….a gajillion different ways to use them!

Boy I love a day when I happen across inspiration that speaks to my current project list! Love the idea of using drop cloths. We have a lanai and I desperately want to hang fabric to add a cozy feeling & some romance but wasn’t sure how to do it cheaply enough so if the fabric gets dingy I don’t cry LOL You just solved my problem :~) Your space is wonderful — I’m sure you’ll spend lots of time there!

I really like the color that you added to your space. The red chairs are my favorite addition. However, the drop cloth curtains are a close second. The green cushion in the armchair looks nice too.
