Room Makeover

Remember when I entered that room makeover contest?  You know…….the one I didn’t win.  No, it wasn’t your fault.  I blame my featured blogger.  Mandi.  :)

Vintage Revival

After thumbing through her blog, I am even more mad that I didn’t win.  My room makeover would have been the BOMB!  I have looked at her blog before…….she’s crazy talented.  She’s like the McGiver of decorating. She could take masking tape and make a room look better.  She’s that good. Her specialty is taking thrifted items or making decor items for that FAB room.  No big budgets needed for Mandi to wave her magic wand.  She really is the Thrift Queen.  I thought I was……nope, it’s her.

I’ll get to meet Mandi in a few weeks when I head to Utah for EVO11.  Of course she’s from Utah, is there any doubt?

She was on the Nate Berkus show…….NATE BERKUS.  I was THIS close to having a person who was on the Nate Berkus show do my room makeover?  Dang…….and just in case my whining doesn’t come through my writing…….I’m whining.

Nate Berkus ShowMaking a Rug

I think I first came across Mandi’s blog a while ago when she did this rug. zebra DIY rug She wanted a zebra rug, but didn’t want to pay the $$ they were asking.  So she did what any DIY decorator would do.  She made her own.  I’m still floored (pun intended) by her ingenuity.  This would have been a disaster had I thought of this.  It would have had me cursing like a sailor. zebra rug

She has a natural ability with rugs.  Here’s another one, but this one she only stenciled.  Only.

DIY MIRRORS

She is also famous for her acid wash mirrors.  She’s got a full tutorial on her site.  She also has many furniture makeovers for you to drool over too.painted deskThese mirrors aren’t acid washed, but I knew you’d love them.decorating with mirrors I love the whole wall all mirrored up.  Making a statement is Mandi’s specialty.  Hmmmm, has me thinking.

TIN FOIL Projects

You know how mercury glass is cool right now?  Or those mirrored dressers?  Leave it to Mandi to figure out a less expensive way.  Using tin foil, mod podge and some glaze, she was able to create this amazing side table.mirrored dresser I can just see the look on my husband face if I pulled those items out to remake a dresser.  I have a hunch it wouldn’t have turned out so nice either.  My grand ideas are never grand accomplishments.   I have a lot of trial and error events in my house, which usually means I also have a lot of fits.

Tea Cup Clock

Another really darling idea.  A teacup clock.

teacup clockI knew the girl had personality when I was emailing back and forth with her, but I had NO idea she has THIS much personality.  I can’t wait to meet her.  I think we’ll get along just fine.   She’s the one with the mullet. family photoFor more of Mandi, head on over to her blog.  But I’m warning you.  You’ll be there for a while.  You might want to grab a snack first.

Love the new blog design-especially the stitched Welcome in the corner. When I was a kid, foiling was popular. We used thin sheets of colored foil and spray adhesive over plaster figurines. I’m not sure mod podge had been invented back then, but tin foil sure would have been cheaper. I spent lots of my 50¢ allowance on foil. ;-)

Kim, this is priceless! Kind of reminds me of a couple of family photos we have done…don’t have the courage to post them, but maybe I’ll email them your way-just for a good laugh :-)

I agree with you. I’ve been pining over that zebra rug of Mandi’s for some time. Like you, I am whining too b/c I didn’t win her makeover. Boo.

Great snapshot of her blog. You are right about needing the snack before you sit to browse…

I LOVE Mandi. And I covet her house. Like….I broke a commandment kind of covet. It’s fabulous. I’ve even seen it in person! Amazing. That gray wall with white mirrors wants to be mine. It told me. Great feature, Kim. I’ll see you in a couple weeks at EVO! Yay!

I entered Mandi’s contest and made it as the runner up. Seriously, talk about bummed out that I didn’t win! I wish I had as much creative juices in my whole body as she does in her pinky. AhMAZEing! So I feel your pain for not winning and totally love that you are whining a little bit about it. It makes me feel less bad about the sore loser post I made after I lost. ;)

I’m wondering if this could be done with kids tea cups/sets to make it smaller? less heavy? Super cute, my daughter would love it or I’d make her anyway!!
