It’s been such an honor to have been asked to work with Clarius Entertainment to help promote the upcoming movie, Legends of Oz: Dorothy Returns. Only a couple more days til this 3D musical feature film will be in theaters.
I wish this movie would have been around when my son was small. Finding a movie that both kids and parents can equally enjoy together can be a rare find.
Science Project for Kids – Magic Rainbows from Legends of Oz: Dorothy Returns
Getting the kids excited to go see this film is easy, especially if you create a few fun crafts or science projects to build up the excitement.
Lather up some fun with my DIY Legends of Oz: Dorothy Returns Tattoo Soaps that I shared a couple of weeks ago, or channel Wiser the OWL for this fun science project that creates a magical rainbow just like the one Glinda waves from her magic wand.
Making Magic Rainbows
- Vegetable oil – 1 tablespoon
- Water – enough to fill your jar half way
- food coloring – Red, Blue and Yellow. No need for green.
Fill your jar almost to the top with regular tap water.
Place 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a small measuring cup.
SLOWLY pour the oil mixture into the water and WATCH!
If your rainbow is slow to form, gently touch the droplets of food coloring with the fork.
Using creative ways to build up to this movie event will make happy memories of watching Legends of Oz: Dorothy Returns.
Start planning your movie treats because you’ll be equally excited to watch with this star studded cast. Watch the trailer below.

“Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return” – a 3D animated musical feature film in theaters May 9th, 2014
Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return is a 3D-animated musical based on the adventure books by Roger Stanton Baum, the great-grandson of L. Frank Baum. A continuation of one of the world’s most popular and beloved fairy tales, Legends of Oz finds Dorothy (Lea Michele) waking to post-tornado Kansas, only to be whisked back to Oz to try to save her old friends the Scarecrow (Dan Aykroyd), the Lion (Jim Belushi), the Tin Man (Kelsey Grammer) and Glinda (Bernadette Peters) from a devious new villain, the Jester (Martin Short). Wiser the owl (Oliver Platt), Marshal Mallow (Hugh Dancy), China Princess (Megan Hilty) and Tugg the tugboat (Patrick Stewart) join Dorothy on her latest magical journey through the colorful landscape of Oz to restore order and happiness to Emerald City. Set to the tunes of Academy Award-nominated singer/songwriter Bryan Adams, Legends of Oz marks a charming, family-friendly return to the Oz franchise.
